In some states, we have to jump through hoops in order to comply with what is called the ď3-tier systemĒ. This means that your order will make a stop, either physically or just the paperwork, at an in-state wholesaler before it moves on to you. Because of the paperwork and legal logistics involved, we only ship out to some of our 3-tier states once a week (on Thursday) and orders must be received by Tuesday in order to ship out that week. Some 3-tier states also switch to a warm-weather Summer schedule, with shipments going out only every other week. Please check your ship-to state to see what the story is. We have found that it then takes between 4-8 business days for those shipments to arrive, depending upon the state. Yes, itís ridiculous and we canít stand it either. With any luck, the latest Supreme Court ruling might encourage more states to drop this antiquated system and allow for the free, direct shipment of wine.
The shipping and handling fees can become mighty hefty in these 3-tier states as a result of all of these compliance issues. We guarantee not to add even one penny to what we are charged, but that might come as small comfort. You will find that you get more bang for your shipping & handling buck when you order larger quantites, so we highly recommend you do so. Please also look for wines which offer free shipping by the case.
